The event was held
on March 11 at the Plaza de Toros in Bogotá. Many friends from the
technological world got together to talk about what we like, technology,
devices, and the new launch we were going to attend. That day the
Samsung Galaxy S20 was launched in Colombia.
Since that day I have it
in my possession. All experience because, as I have said several times,
my day-to-day phone has been the one for me, the great and very well
balanced Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus.

Del S10 Plus to S20 Plus. |
I want to share my experience with the S20 Plus trying to answer two questions:
- What stands out the most about the Galaxy S20 plus?
- Is it worth updating?
We are going to answer the second question in the next note, but to answer the first, we have to talk about balance.
Balance, the S20 Plus proposal.
Few
devices are more personal than a Smartphone. You use them to play,
communicate with family, record moments, work, and even for emergencies.
It spends more time in our hands than another piece of technology and
it is at the top of our list of priorities when we are going out. A note
on a phone is also a very personal note and this story began to be
written in Bogotá where I live and work and ends in Manizales, from
where I write now. From the Galaxy S9, Samsung has had a huge change.
Over many years, in Colombia, the brand has been a leader but, at the
same time, it has had a reputation for playing it safe and not being
daring or risky like many other competitor proposals.

Ready to be used. |
Everything changed
with the S10 and, on that phone, we saw a new design, more cameras, and
in general a long-awaited sense of renewal. Then in an unexpected
movement, the J series, the brand's “dairy cow” disappeared and was
renewed by the very successful line A., according to the Counterpoint
consultancy, of the 5 most popular smartphones in LATAM, 4 are Samsung,
being respectively the A10, J2 Core, A20 and J4 Core.
|
The A80, a Samsung that went beyond what the brand had accustomed us. |
What has changed at Samsung?
Well,
the brand focused on a proposal that combines two variables that are
difficult to reconcile. Unique and remarkable features in each model and
a marked consistency in terms of design and performance. Each Samsung
looks and feels as such, but at the same time, they differ in each model
presented.
|
A strategy that works. |
In the case of the S, the focus tends towards balance.
Don't get me wrong, I admit they are not cheap phones but at the same
time, whether you buy a 20, 20 plus or 20 Ultra, you may not feel like
losing or giving up or something, being consistent in terms of
experience and performance Of each model.
What makes the S20 Plus different?
|
Several apps are specially designed for Samsung. |
It
will sound strange, but what I like the most is that it does not
over-promise. In the current market all companies are immersed in a
crazy race to deliver a “killer feature” that impresses everyone, the
S20 Plus (the Ultra is something else), is committed to delivering a
great phone in all its features and point! In the S20 Plus, balance
translates into a single word, TRANQUILITY, the one that gives the user
because the S20 Plus can handle any task that is given to it.
Let's talk about the benefits of S20 Plus to understand what happens daily:
Screen:
6.7 inches Dynamic AMOLED. Samsung stands out a lot here if we add to
that the refresh rate of 120 Hz, the experience is fluid and clear. Now,
the only detail that I don't like is one that has nothing to do with
the screen itself. That blessed front camera shouldn't be in the center,
it was much easier to hide when it was next to it like in the S10 Plus.
A matter of taste, I think.
|
A big screen, but move the camera! |
Primary Camera Set: 12-megapixel Dual
Pixel main camera with optical stabilization, one 64-megapixel, and one
12-megapixel with a super wide-angle lens and 3D TOF sensor for depth
measurement.
|
The reflections occur because the lenses were dirty due to the rain. There was no supporting light. |
Testing the cameras of a phone during quarantine is the
most challenging of all. But here I go straight to the point. What
caught my attention the most, beyond the benefits of each one, is how
they work together through the single-shot mode, in which all the
cameras of the phone work at the same time, creating content thought to
be uploaded to the social networks without the need for further editing.
That
being said, the fact that it is a waterproof smartphone and with a good
night mode stood out for this photo, close to the Letters moor where a
gradual stood on the road while returning to Manizales for family
reasons.

Normal |
|
Optical zoom. |
Optical zoom is very useful and with a wide-angle, normal
shot, and Zoom options it is more than good in terms of performance.
Digital zoom, mmmm let's just say it's not your forte.
Front camera:
10 megapixels with f / 1.9 lens and Dual Pixel sensor with PDAF focus.
Felipe Lizcano's favorite feature, however, even though it is bright and
works very well in terms of design I am not a fan that it is in the
center, I liked the location of the S10 Plus better. Again, a matter of
taste.
RAM: 8GB.
Storage: 128 GB, although there are 256 options.
Battery:
4,500 mAh why Samsung, why? A little more, a little more battery would
have been appreciated. It is not that you leave one lying but, it lasts
longer in the S10 Plus, it is strange, but it is not like it
disqualifies the rest of the benefits.
|
Power for everyday, even for DEX mode. |
Three months with the S20 Plus, I balance a phone at the height of what can be ordered today and what comes tomorrow.
