When
talking about the Note, generally people tend to think of Samsung but,
it is worth emphasizing that there is also the Redmi Note from Xiaomi,
which is a line of smartphones that are trying to democratize the
benefits that were previously considered high-end, taking them to a
market with a more average purchasing power.
The uncovering of Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro
At
first glance, the Xiaomi Note 8 Pro has an "Interesting" design, with a
bright screen with Full HD + resolution, small bezels and a notch or
"Notch" type "drop" that works well and is comfortable (more than 84% of
the front is the pure screen).
Now,
nothing like seeing the traditional “uncover” to understand Xiaomi's
offer for a market that expects a lot but, unfortunately, you cannot
afford to pay too much for a phone, even if it is smart!
The specifications and user experience of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro
The specifications and experience of using the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro
The
"IPS" screen is large, quite large (6.53 ") with a resolution of 1080 x
2340 pixels and an aspect of 19.5: 9, which, quite possibly, will be
quite liked by those who are used to consuming content from the
smartphone and can reach need a terminal with dimensions of 161.4 x 76.4
x 8.8 mm (a few years ago it could have been classified as a phablet).
It
is necessary to clarify that the Note 8 Pro is not the lightest with
its 200 g of weight, it is manageable and it fits most of the front
pockets of my pants (although in some cases it is quite fair).
The
processor is a Mediatek Helio G90T, it does not detract and,
accompanied by 6 GB of RAM memory, it behaves at the height of
practically any situation that is put in spite of its 12 nm
architecture, the integrated AI helps to improve processes to voice
level, camera, energy management, and even video games.
ROM
memory is 64 GB and the possibility of expanding storage via microSD
memory tends to be attractive to consumers in this range. In addition to
energy optimization by software, the Redmi Note 8 Pro includes a
powerful 4500 mAh battery that is very useful to achieve a little more
than a day of charge.
It
includes a USB-C port for fast charging of 18 Watts/data
synchronization and, on top of that, it maintains the long-awaited 3.5
mm input for all lovers of traditional hearing aids who refuse to change
them for wireless ones or use adapters.
At
the connectivity level, it has Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, infrared, NFC,
dual-band WiFi 802.11 a / b / g / n / ac, and even bone-in WiFi Direct,
the Note 8 Pro has nothing to envy other high-end terminals of the
market at the connection level.
The rear camera set of the Redmi Note 8 Pro |
The
20 MP selfie camera works quite well but the rear camera set is
definitely the one that steals the show! A small detail that is worth it
is that it is quite close to the fingerprint reader on the back, which
is why it is possible that several users end up dirtying the lenses
inadvertently when unlocking the Redmi Note 8 Pro.
Going
back to the rear cameras, in the arrangement it has four sensors, the
main one being 64 MP, a wide angle of 8 MP, a depth sensor of 2 MP, and a
macro of 2 MP for photography of nearby objects.
The
64 MP mode achieves greater detail, in such a way that it is possible
to zoom the image without losing much detail (although the image is
obviously optimized by AI). In my tests, I managed to take the moving
photo of the name of any set and, later, enlarge it to read the address.
However,
at night the noise tends to appear despite the optimization and, to
achieve interesting results, it must be accompanied by public lighting
or a good external light to illuminate the scenes. Despite everything,
the score of the Redmi Note 8 Pro in the light of experts like DXOMark
is quite good.
At
the level of the Bokeh effect, it is achieved but it looks somewhat
artificial, as it happens with the video that has a very interesting
“look” but, you see something over-processed and it is difficult to
manage the volume especially when recording from a moving car (as in the
case of the tests carried out). Now, there is no fear, in general, that
can be overcome with a good tripod or gizmo and an external microphone.
The
slow-motion, which is where most mobiles tend to suffer since they
capture less light and cost them stabilization, the Redmi Note 8 Pro
manages to pass the test. It is good to say that at the beginning it is
difficult to focus on the subject in said camera mode and, therefore,
sometimes you have to take several shots until you get a good one.
The
Xiaomi customization layer, at first, makes it necessary to explore the
options to be able to adapt and understand the system that, at the end
of the day, is still the same Android but, with a slightly different
dynamic to execute some actions. Once that slight friction generated by
the customization layer has passed, the operating system tends to become
transparent to the user.
Not everything is happy with the Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro ...
There
are things that Xiaomi could improve for the following versions of
smartphones although, it should be noted that Redmi Note 8 Pro is a
mid-range with all the toys! Thus, if the brand wants to pamper the
followers a little more, it could add some details of fine coquetry
(luxuries), such as:
- A slightly slimmer body, since it is currently a little bulky,
- IP68 water and dust resistance since it currently only resists splashing, especially for those people who usually drop the phone in humid places or, in the worst case, submerge it in the pool,
- Better after-sales support (since many users have complained about social media),
- Pure Android, to preserve the user experience and make things easier when updating.
Conclusion about the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro?
Undoubtedly,
the Redmi Note 8 Pro is a very interesting terminal that "has wood" to
reign in the mid-range, not only for its price of less than one million
Colombian pesos or around $ 300 dollars (which, represents a good return
on investment) if not, for the performance it achieves thanks to the
processor + 6 GB of RAM + the integrated AI that helps improve
processes.
So,
it is a good option for those who want to consume content, take photos
and videos without having to break the bank to be able to pay what
high-end mobile costs.
